Housing Minister Darragh O'Brien denies housing lost funding in Budget 2025 preparations, stating additional funding will be needed when new housing targets increase.

Housing Minister Darragh O'Brien has rejected claims that housing lost out on funding in Budget 2025 preparations. He noted that when new housing targets increase in the autumn, additional funding will be required. The Economic and Social Research Institute found that 44,000 new housing units are needed annually to keep up with population growth. O'Brien stated that this research, funded by his department, will be taken into account when revising Ireland's housing targets for the following year.
