2019 California scuba boat fire captain convicted, prosecutors seek restitution for 34 families.

Prosecutors seek restitution for the families of 34 people killed in a 2019 scuba boat fire off the California coast. The captain of the Conception, Jerry Boylan, was convicted last year of one count of misconduct or neglect of ship officer. A judge will determine the restitution amount during a hearing on 11 July in federal court in Los Angeles. The 2019 tragedy prompted changes to maritime regulations, congressional reform, and ongoing civil lawsuits.
