220 Tokyo residents oppose a massive data centre project by Singaporean developer GLP in Akishima city. They filed a petition to audit the urban planning procedure approving the centre, citing concerns over wildlife, pollution, electricity usage, and water supply. The residents' group successfully blocked a similar project in Nagareyama city in December. GLP's 3.63-million-megawatt data centre is estimated to emit about 1.8 million tons of carbon dioxide annually.
