The incident occurred on July 6 as the tourist, who had escaped from a hospital, drove the stolen van to Patong Beach. The foreigner was trapped inside the wreckage and had to be rescued by Kusoltham Phuket Foundation before being sent to Patong Hospital. The driver of the second van, a Thai man named Sompong, sustained leg injuries.
