flag 1910s-extinct Floerkea flower rediscovered in Vermont by amphibian scientist Molly Parren.

A rare, tiny flower thought to be extinct in Vermont since WWI has been found by amphibian scientist Molly Parren, who discovered it while tracking a wood turtle. Parren's colleague, state botanist Grace Glynn, identified the plant as floerkea, or false mermaid-weed, and its reappearance has been celebrated as a symbol of hope. The plant has a short blooming window in April and its white flowers are just the size of a pinhead.
