AI-generated exam answers at University of Reading outperformed real students, raising concerns for the education industry.

A study at the University of Reading has found that AI-generated exam answers can outperform real university students and often go undetected by markers. Researchers used ChatGPT to create 33 fake students and produce exam answers for an undergraduate psychology degree. The AI students' average results were half a grade higher than those of real students, and 94% of the AI-generated essays raised no concerns. The findings highlight the need for the education industry to evolve in the face of AI advancements.
