Study finds potential 7-14°C temperature rise from CO2 doubling, higher than IPCC predictions.
A study by researchers from NIOZ, the Universities of Utrecht, and Bristol reveals a potential temperature rise of 7-14 degrees from a doubling of CO2 in the atmosphere, much higher than the 2.3-4.5 degrees predicted by the UN climate panel, IPCC. The study analyzed a 45-year-old drill core from the Pacific Ocean and used chlorophyll and cholesterol in algae to estimate past atmospheric CO2 levels. The findings suggest that CO2 concentration may have a stronger impact on temperature than assumed.
