3 Chinese swimmers involved in a drug scandal ahead of the Tokyo Olympics had tested positive for banned substances clenbuterol in 2016 and 2017, according to a secret report reviewed by The New York Times. Despite this, no disciplinary action was taken as Chinese authorities claimed the athletes inadvertently ingested the substance through contaminated meat. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) found the athletes' levels of clenbuterol to be between six and 50 times lower than the current reporting level.
