Sweden protested against a death sentence handed down to a Swedish citizen in Iraq, urgently summoning Iraq's chargé d'affaires in Stockholm. The foreign ministry confirmed one Swedish citizen had been sentenced to death, with information suggesting one or two others received the same sentence. Sweden opposes the death penalty "always, everywhere and regardless of the circumstances" and demanded the sentences not be enforced, alongside respect for Iraq's international commitments on consular matters.
