Greece temporarily closed the Acropolis and cancelled elementary school and preschool classes in southern and central regions due to a severe heatwave. The Acropolis closed for five hours as temperatures reached 39 degrees Celsius (102 degrees Fahrenheit). City authorities halted garbage collection for several hours and opened seven air-conditioned public spaces. Drones with thermal cameras were used to coordinate the public health response.
