Samsung Electronics faces a strike, wage negotiation stall, $11bn loss in semiconductor business, market leadership loss in HBM chips, and trails TSMC in foundry business.
Samsung Electronics faces internal and external challenges as the National Samsung Electronics Union (NSEU) announces a strike amid stalled wage negotiations and declining demand for IT products leading to a $11bn loss for the semiconductor business in 2021. The company has lost leadership in the high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips market and trails industry leader Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) in its foundry business.
