US Supreme Court denies California prison officials' immunity appeal.
The US Supreme Court has denied an appeal from California correctional officials seeking immunity from lawsuits over their handling of a deadly COVID-19 outbreak at San Quentin prison in 2020. The outbreak resulted from a botched transfer of infected inmates, leading to the deaths of 28 inmates and a correctional officer. California now faces four lawsuits from the relatives of those who died, as well as from infected inmates and staff who survived.
