FPL conducts annual mock hurricane drill, simulating response to a Category 4 hurricane impact on power grid.
Florida Power & Light (FPL) is conducting its annual mock hurricane drill this week, simulating its response if a major hurricane struck Florida and damaged the power grid. Hurricane Benito, with 135 mph winds, was not a real storm but was imagined to be stronger than Hurricanes Idalia and Ian, which caused significant damage in the state over the past two years. FPL's territory provides power to 12 million people, or half of Florida's population.
