The Civil Liberties Union for Europe (Liberties) warns in its annual report that media freedom in the EU is declining, with threats against journalists and public broadcaster independence becoming increasingly common. High media ownership concentration, inadequate rules on transparency, and surveillance of journalists are cited as key issues. The report, compiled by 37 rights groups from 19 countries, also documents instances of intimidation, violence, and restrictions on freedom of expression across the union.
