Texas Parks and Wildlife Department proposes banning canned mountain lion hunting and implementing trapping standards by May 22 for public input.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) seeks public input by May 22 on proposed regulations to ban canned mountain lion hunting and implement trapping standards. The proposals aim to address concerns about inhumane treatment of mountain lions in traps and prohibit capturing and later releasing lions for hunting purposes. If approved, trappers would be required to ensure lions aren't kept alive in traps over 36 hours, with certain exemptions. Comments can be submitted through TPWD's public comment page or at the TPW Commission meeting on May 23.
