A play titled "Deng Shichang" is set to premiere at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing on April 27, honoring the heroic naval officer who served in the Beiyang Fleet during the Sino-Japanese War (1894-95). Deng Shichang (1849-1894) was the captain of the cruiser Zhiyuan. The play, written by Li Baoqun and directed by Wang Xiaodi, will run until May 4, with actor Wang Lei of the Beijing People's Art Theatre playing the role of Deng Shichang.
