India releases over 100 climate-resilient wheat varieties, providing an advantage in coping with climate change.
India is better prepared to handle climate shocks in wheat crop production, according to agri-scientists. Both countries are experiencing favorable weather conditions for record wheat output this year, but India's indigenous heat-resistant and short-duration seed varieties provide an advantage in coping with climate change. India, the second-largest wheat-producing country, is self-sufficient in wheat output, while Pakistan, ranked eighth, aims to produce 32.2 million tonnes from 8.9 million hectares in the 2023-24 crop year. India has released over 100 climate-resilient wheat varieties, while Pakistan has released 31 wheat varieties through international collaborations.
