Fine Gael appoints Heather Humphreys as deputy leader, succeeding Simon Coveney.

Fine Gael appoints Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys as deputy leader, succeeding Simon Coveney. Humphreys takes up her new role as the party renews its focus on issues such as small business support, rewarding work, and strengthening rural Ireland. This change comes as Fine Gael heads into its annual Ard Fheis conference in Galway. New party leader Simon Harris is expected to become taoiseach on Tuesday and will make changes to Fine Gael representatives at Cabinet in the coming days.
