Pope Francis: I Was ‘Used’ Against Ratzinger in 2005 Conclave, But He Was ‘My Candidate’.

Pope Francis revealed in a forthcoming book "The Successor" that he was "used" in the 2005 conclave to block the election of Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict XVI. Francis admitted his name was put forward as part of a "maneuver" by unnamed cardinals, and said he didn't want to be elected. Ratzinger was elected on the same day, and Francis praised him as "the only one who could be pope at that time."
