Japan designates 5 airports and 11 seaports for upgrades to accommodate SDF and Japan Coast Guard, with a budget of 37 billion yen.

Japan's government has designated five airports and 11 seaports for upgrades to accommodate the Self-Defense Forces (SDF) and Japan Coast Guard. The plan, starting in the current fiscal year through next March, has a 37 billion yen ($244 million) budget for the first year. Designated airports will have runways extended and aprons widened, while ports will have deeper and well-equipped docks to host destroyers and other large ships. Local governments managing these facilities will sign documents with the central government to specify the SDF and Japan Coast Guard's use.
