The Linux Foundation will host Valkey, a Redis fork backed by major cloud providers, including AWS, Google Cloud, Oracle, Ericsson, and Snap. This comes after Redis Labs adopted the Server Side Public License (SSPL), which made Redis-as-a-service incompatible with the standard "open source" definition. Valkey maintains a permissive BSD license, allowing more branches and competition.
