Researchers mapped the sugarcane genome, completing the decoding of the world's 20 major crops.

Researchers from The University of Queensland, Australia's CSIRO, and Sugar Research Australia have successfully mapped the sugarcane genome, marking the end of a decade-long international research effort and making it the last of the world's 20 major crops to be decoded. The genome, revealed to be three times the size of the human genome and more complex, will aid in developing more resistant sugarcane crops and facilitate research into converting sugarcane and other plant biomass into sustainable aviation fuels.
