Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphreys plans to introduce an auto-enrolment pension scheme for 800,000 private sector workers, with the state contributing €1 for every €3 a worker puts into their pension, and employers required to match the worker's €3 contribution. This results in the employees having €7 for every €3 they put into their pension. The legislation will allow workers to opt out of the scheme.
