In early March, a fraudulent hit-and-run story on NewsBreak led readers to donate over $1,500 to a non-existent GoFundMe campaign. The author directed readers to a GoFundMe page set up to raise money for their funeral services. The campaign was created by Jamel El-Amin. NBC News found that the victims and the accident were not recorded, and no reports of a hit-and-run were found.
