42-year-old Zimbabwean woman becomes first to undergo keyhole lung surgery for Myasthenia Gravis at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.
42-year-old Nyanga woman, Tatenda Nyakutya, became the first in Zimbabwe to undergo keyhole lung surgery at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals. Nyakutya, who had been bedridden for over a decade, was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis and had an abnormally growing thymus gland. The video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) is less invasive than open-chest surgery and marks a milestone in Zimbabwe's medical history.
