Tuvalu's Prime Minister, Feleti Teo, is seeking assurances from Australia that a recent security treaty will not diminish Tuvalu's sovereignty. The Falepili Union treaty, signed in late 2023, allows Australia to have veto power over Tuvalu's security arrangements with other countries. Teo expressed disappointment over the clause, which he believes gives the impression that Tuvalu is conceding its sovereignty.
