The Irish Court of Appeal increased the jail sentence of convicted rapist and killer Ian Horgan to more than 11 years for a hammer attack on a mother and son, up from the original 8½ years. The Director of Public Prosecutions had appealed for a 15-year sentence, considering the original sentence unduly lenient. Horgan had a history of violent crimes, including manslaughter and rape.
