FTC to refund $4.1M to 27,584 victims of student loan forgiveness scams by Mission Hills Federal and Federal Direct Group.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will refund $4.1 million to 27,584 victims of student loan forgiveness scams operated by Mission Hills Federal and Federal Direct Group. The organizations allegedly charged illegal upfront fees, pretended to lower consumers' monthly student loan payments, and pocketed monthly loan payments. This is not the first time the FTC has issued refunds for student loan scams, as it also sent out $9 million last August to victims of Ameritech Financial and refunded 37,800 consumers earlier this year.
