The Supreme Court of India agreed to review a Madras High Court ruling that deemed downloading child pornography not an offense.
The Supreme Court of India has agreed to examine a Madras High Court ruling that stated downloading and possessing child pornography is not an offence. The Madras High Court order, issued on January 11, quashed criminal proceedings against a man charged with downloading pornographic content involving children. The Supreme Court bench, headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, called the Madras High Court ruling "atrocious" and issued a notice to the Tamil Nadu government and others in the matter. The plea challenging the Madras High Court order was filed by NGOs Just Rights for Children Alliance and Bachpan Bachao Andolan.
