Weight-loss drugs Wegovy and Ozempic, classified as GLP-1 receptor agonists, can increase the risk of vomiting during surgery under anesthesia, a recent study reports. These drugs slow digestion, causing food to remain in the stomach longer. Consequently, 56% of patients on such drugs still had significant amounts of food in their stomach during surgery, compared to 19% not taking them, revealing potential aspiration risk under anesthesia.
