An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 struck near Kazakhstan's largest city, Almaty, on 4th March, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center. The quake's epicenter was 31 km south of Almaty and was felt in the capital of neighbouring Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek. The Almaty police department reportedly increased their duty level in response to the event, with over 2,000 officers ensuring law and order in the city.
