US appoints Tom Perriello as special envoy for Sudan to address ongoing war and crisis.
The US has appointed Tom Perriello, former diplomat and former member of Congress, as the new special envoy for Sudan, as Washington seeks to end the ongoing war in the country. Perriello, who has previously served as special envoy for the Great Lakes region of Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo, will replace U.S. Ambassador to Sudan John Godfrey. The war in Sudan has led to over 13,000 deaths, internal displacement crises, and warnings of famine.
