US allies growing concerned about decreased US reliability in international relations.

America's allies are growing increasingly concerned about the United States becoming less reliable, regardless of who wins the next US presidential election. This unease is based on both candidates' differing approaches to international relations and the perceived decrease in the United States' global influence. During his first term, President Trump questioned the value of NATO and often criticized the leaders of US allies. Trump also suggested that, as president, he would encourage Russia to "do whatever the hell they want" to nations that did not pay their way in NATO. Biden, though supportive of Ukraine, has not managed to completely restore US influence in the region, and Congressional Republicans have stalled additional military aid for Ukraine. These concerns have led some European NATO allies to consider increasing military spending and planning for an alliance without the US.
