Lead singer of The Feelers, James Reid, pleaded guilty to refusing a blood test and failing to stop for police in Christchurch, facing up to two years' imprisonment and a $6000 fine.

James Charles Gallienne Reid, the lead singer of The Feelers, a well-known New Zealand band, has admitted guilt in a Christchurch District Court for refusing a blood test, pertaining to charges related to alcohol consumption. Reid was stopped by police on Boxing Day at 2:20 a.m. for speeding and admitted to drinking alcohol prior to driving. He provided two insufficient breath volume samples and refused a blood specimen requested by the police. Reid's lawyer has stated that the singer acknowledges dealing with a serious alcohol problem. The Feelers, formed in 1993, have received five Aotearoa NZ Music Awards and three Apra Most Played Song of the Year awards.
