Concerns over a rise in acid attacks in Hertfordshire have been raised, however, data reveals that there has not been an upward trend in the county. In the 2021/22 and 2022/23 financial years, 12 and 9 offenses were recorded respectively. The highest recorded number of acid attacks in England was in 2017, exceeding 900, but this number has significantly decreased to 710 in 2023. Acid attacks remain "exceedingly rare" in Hertfordshire, with more than half of the attacks reported in the North West of England.
