U.S. oil and gas producer Devon Energy reportedly approached Enerplus with an acquisition offer.

U.S. oil and gas producer Devon Energy has reportedly approached Enerplus, a peer with a market value of C$4 billion ($3 billion), with an acquisition offer, according to sources familiar with the matter. The acquisition, if it proceeds, would add to the recent deal-making trend in the North American oil and gas industry, which has included major deals by rivals such as Exxon Mobil, Chevron, and Occidental Petroleum. There is no guarantee that Devon and Enerplus will reach a negotiated agreement, and the terms of the proposed acquisition were not disclosed.
