Former TikTok managing director Katie Ellen Puris sues TikTok and parent company.

Former TikTok managing director Katie Ellen Puris is suing the company and its parent, ByteDance, alleging she was fired due to age and gender discrimination and retaliation. Puris claims she was placed on ByteDance chairman Lidong Zhang's "kill list" for lacking "docility and meekness" required of women employees. Puris faced increased discrimination as she approached 50, with executives preferring younger, less experienced employees. In addition to her claims of discrimination, Puris reported an incident of sexual harassment at a company event in 2022, which she says TikTok failed to address. The lawsuit alleges that her health suffered as a result of the stress and pressure, leading to multiple surgeries. Puris was ultimately fired in September 2022 for "performance reasons" after raising concerns about gender issues.
