Following the Gaza war, there have been no fewer than three US service members killed and twenty-five injured in a drone attack by militants backed by Iran near the border with Syria in northeast Jordan.

A drone strike on a base in northeast Jordan, close to the Syrian border, resulted in the deaths of three US service members and the injuries of twenty-five others on January 28. Since the start of the Gaza War, there have not been any fatal military actions against American service members. President Biden claimed that militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq with Iranian support were behind the unmanned aerial drone attack. The attack was attributed to the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella organization that includes militants supported by Iran.
