First Deafblind class launched at Australian primary school.
A Deafblind class has launched at Tenambit Public School in New South Wales, marking the first of its kind in a mainstream Australian primary school.
Created for five-year-old Ari Bennett after two years of advocacy by his mother, the class is led by Deaf educator Polly van Aardt, who uses tactile sign language and Braille.
The program aims to demonstrate the capabilities of Deaf and Deafblind individuals and has enriched the school community, with plans to expand accessibility and foster friendships between students.
