Colossal biotech company resurrects extinct bluebuck antelope using genetic editing.

A U.S. company, Colossal Biosciences, is working to bring back the bluebuck antelope, extinct since 1800 due to hunting by European settlers in South Africa. Using genetic editing, the company modifies the DNA of the roan antelope—the bluebuck’s closest living relative—to reintroduce key traits, following a similar process used to create genetically modified dire wolves.
