India's RBI will allow automatic loan relief for disaster victims starting July 1, 2026.
Starting July 1, 2026, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will allow banks and financial institutions to automatically provide loan relief to borrowers affected by natural disasters without requiring individual requests.
Under the new guidelines, eligible borrowers with standard accounts can receive options like repayment rescheduling or fee waivers, though they can opt out within 135 days.
Banks must also set aside an additional 5% provision on restructured loans to manage risk.
