Taiwan court sentences ex-Tokyo Electron employee to 10 years for TSMC trade secret theft.
A Taiwan court sentenced a former employee of Japanese chipmaker Tokyo Electron to 10 years in prison for stealing trade secrets from TSMC, Taiwan’s leading semiconductor manufacturer.
The employee, Chen Li-ming, was found guilty of using his past connections to illegally access confidential information, including technical data for advanced chips, to help Tokyo Electron win business.
In addition to the prison term, Tokyo Electron was fined 150 million New Taiwan dollars, and four others received sentences of up to six years.
The case, prosecuted under Taiwan’s national security laws, highlights the high stakes in protecting the global semiconductor supply chain.
