SEBI approves net settlement for FPIs in India by 2026.
India's markets regulator, SEBI, has approved a new framework allowing Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) to net settle funds for same-day cash market trades by December 31, 2026.
This change, aimed at reducing funding costs and improving efficiency, permits FPIs to use proceeds from sales to fund purchases, settling only the net difference.
However, this netting applies only to outright transactions, while transactions involving both buys and sells of the same security will continue to be settled on a gross basis.
