China’s blueberry industry has transformed from a luxury into an affordable staple, dubbed "blueberry freedom," thanks to advanced farming and a dual strategy of importing premium berries and exporting homegrown ones.
Since 2020, domestic production has surged, with output rising to 810,000 tonnes and prices dropping to 30–60 yuan per kilogram.
The industry imports about 38,700 tonnes annually, primarily from Peru, while exports have grown nearly 15-fold, reaching 2,592 tonnes and $23.14 million in value for markets including Southeast Asia and Russia.
