Ontario launches 60 projects to fight invasive phragmites spreading across wetlands.
Invasive phragmites, known as Canada’s “worst” invasive plant since 2005, is spreading across Ontario, threatening wetlands and outcompeting native species.
Growing up to five meters tall, it spreads via seeds and contaminated equipment.
Ontario is responding with over 60 control projects through the Ontario Phragmites Action program, which funds herbicide treatments and habitat restoration.
The public is encouraged to report sightings and clean equipment to help prevent further spread.
