Shanghai publishing house releases database of 23,000 lost ancient Chinese bronze artifacts.
Shanghai Classics Publishing House published a 60-volume compendium documenting over 23,000 lost ancient Chinese bronze artifacts.
Initiated in 2012 by the National Cultural Heritage Administration and led by Peking University, the project expanded estimates of overseas bronzes by more than sevenfold.
The database details nearly 300 types of artifacts, most acquired through looting and smuggling between the late 19th and mid-20th centuries, and aims to aid future repatriation efforts.
