India approved potato procurement in Uttar Pradesh to protect farmers from market volatility.
The Indian government approved the procurement of 20 lakh metric tonnes of potatoes in Uttar Pradesh at a fixed price of Rs 6,501 per tonne, costing Rs 203.15 crore.
It also increased chana procurement in Andhra Pradesh to 1.13 lakh metric tonnes and extended tur procurement in Karnataka until May 15, 2026.
These measures, announced by Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, aim to protect farmers from distress sales and ensure fair prices amid market volatility.
