New museum opens in Miami honoring Bay of Pigs invasion veterans.
On the 65th anniversary of the Bay of Pigs Invasion, Cuban exiles and veterans in Miami marked the event with the opening of a new museum dedicated to the failed 1961 U.S.-backed attempt to overthrow Fidel Castro.
The museum, located in Little Havana, honors the nearly 1,500 fighters involved, many of whom were recruited while still in school, and serves to educate the public on the complex history of the Cold War.
Survivors, now mostly in their 80s, use the occasion to reflect on the invasion's lasting impact on Cuba and U.S.-Cuba relations.
