Ontario to cut school board trustees, add new roles, and mandate high school exams.
Ontario Education Minister Paul Calandra is set to announce major school board reforms on April 13, 2026, aimed at addressing concerns over mismanagement and financial instability.
The legislation, titled the Putting Student Achievement First Act, would cut the number of elected trustees across the province while introducing two new executive roles: a Chief Executive Officer responsible for budgets and a Chief Education Officer overseeing academics.
High school students will also face mandatory written exams and attendance-based grading.
