An experienced metal detectorist named Mason Metcalfe discovered a 3,600-year-old Bronze Age axe head in a field in the South Lakes.
The artifact, dating back to 1,800–1,500 BC, was found at a shallow depth and has been recorded in the Portable Antiquities Database.
After analysis, the axe will be returned to Metcalfe in June.
